Dr. William Edward Burghardt Dubois left America after renouncing his American citizenship and moved to Ghana, West Africa. He went there to help the local intelligentsia set up their framework for government.
These Ghanaians officials wanted a model to emulate the British crown and those social democracies in Europe. They had been commissioned by the president and a governing board in Ghana. This commission started working on a dual-system of government for these Ghanaian citizens.
Dr. Dubois’ role was to act as a guide-on in assisting the Ghanaians with the writing of their constitution. The constitution would become the basis for their government.
America is not a constitutional republic, but a democratic one. This is in how the people decide who best represents their interests. The American government has fostered a democratic system in which our representatives are elected by a plurality of the American vote.
In our Democratic Republic, we have an electoral college which decides this plurality. The Electoral College is a commission which grants each 50 states the number of deciding votes according to the population per state.
